wow -30 degrees is cold. i would bet your fuel is gelled up and batteries weak. put some antigel in the tank, plug it in, and get new batteries. should be fine. when it ran the first time, was it blowin white smoke bad?

Not normal but not bad, considering the temp. There was just more fuel in the cylinders. Since you probably cranked it and turned the key several times without it starting, it was probably "primed" pretty good.
