4 wheel drive auto lock hub replacement question

ok guys I was hoping to get your opinions on what brand auto locking 4 wd hub to use for my 04 250 FX4. 6.0
The original ones have gotten stuck a few times and I have spayed them and made the work but they still hang up every now and then. Was thinking of just replacing them. Do you only recommend the Ford part or is there a cheaper way to go that still works well?

Thanx for the help

FYI - I have checked vaccuum and it is good. When you pull the hub out and rotate from auto to lock you sometimes have to turn the inner spline to free it...

Do both sides do it. or just the same one. If it`s just one might just need cleaned. also check the gears for burrs. Might save some cash. Thats what i would do first. JMO

I would go back with the Ford ones. I have never had any of those kinds of issues and the oem ones are usually pretty solid in my experience.

  • 1990 F250 RCLB 7.3 IDI 4x4 ZF5. 45,000 original miles and factory original as can be.
  • 2006 Dodge 3500 QCLB DRW 5.9 CR G56.
  • Vehicles for days!

Will never buy anything from IPR and Sinister! List still growing

update,
I have lubed them up with deep clean twice now and they seem to be working better. 4 HI worked yesterday when I ended up in some mud getting my 4 wheeler trailer out of the pasture.
Thanks for the advise though guys...

Good deal, I would get in the routine of pulling them off and cleaning them.

There really isnt a cost effective upgrade beyond preventive maintenance.
