Question Engine Surge

I have noticed the last couple of days while driving my truck at a consistant speed (fast or slow) it makes a sound like it is trying to suck air, it also bumbs the boost pressure by a lb or so not a dramatic increase but a constant fluxuation with the guage needle just pinging between say 10-12 for ex. Everything runs okay otherwise tried cleaning air filter removing power chip and it only happens at constent speeds not when speeding up or slowing down. Will be getting an appointment for the shop in the morn, but thought maybe someone would have an idea?? Also no codes thrown just the p0603 and 1000 from removing the program

thanks

Does it ever do it at idle or while in park? Mine does and I was enlighend as to a few things I could try. Things like checking fuel moisture separator/filter. I don't have codes either but this morning I expirenced a surge while at a light and I was looking at the tach waiting for it and noticed it was at least a 250 rpm surge. It only lasts for a mili-second but feels like a vehicle bumped me from the rear. It did it twice more while at normal driving speeds. All within about 5 miles.

Let me know when you find out what your problem was, meanwhile I'll attend to the filters etc etc and let you know what the outcome turns out to be.

surging on the highway at cruise alot of times is the vgt solenoid on the turbo, in some cases egr valve can cause this ,curious to see what they find , did you pull codes before or after removing program, if after you cleared any code set

It doesn't do it at an idle and it hasn't bumped itself will be putting the cat back in so I can take it to the dealer. The codes where read before and after I took the program out and I drove it home and no codes came up. Will be about a week before I know for sure because it hasn't gone in for the cat and I will have to wait for them so I can make appt at the dealer. Will let you all know what I find out. Will have the fuel filters checked to.

Thanks

Getting worse

My surge problem seems to be getting worse. I was sitting at a light and it made seven surges before the light turned green.

I have not had time to change/check filters, but it seems I should just get er done, and see what happens. Then address the outcome. Weekend will be here soon and I can devote some time to the truck.

i dont see the filters causing that ,if its doing it at idle at a stoplight ,that could be several things ,egr vave sticking ,eratic ipr ,etc. ,take it in

I have my truck in the shop and I am waiting to hear back from themthey had taken the cat out so they could take it to the dealer as they think it is the turbo, but I am not sure if that would be the same for you, yours sounds a little different. I will post an answer as soon as I get th eruck back.

Forgot to add but yours should have been done , there was a service notice I believe in 05 for a problem with the pcm causing surges and stalls on 6.0's wasn't sure if yours is or not and you may want to check and see if it ever got serviced for that. I believe they can run the vin at Ford and see what services have been done.

Fuel Filters

I scooted downtown and purchased the Fuel filters this morning.... wow they got me for $85.00

In view of these latest posts though I might just save the filters and use them when I really need them. I'll drain the existing filters, though there has not been any sign of the moisture dash indicator light coming on. Can't hurt. I'll just keep trying things till it's running smooth.

The good thing is at least now it's doing it so consistantly that I can show anyone what it's doing. If Ford still says "nothing to worry about" I'll have them stand infront of the truck while I show them

Ipr ???

A sticky IPR was mentioned. I, being very new at this, had to look it up. I remember reading somewhere here on Powerstroke.org about a proposed glossery of terms and acronymns but could not find anything further...did that ever get done?

I did find out what an IPR was, and it was such a good explanation I thought it might be appropriate to post a link to it here, for those who might be as new to this as I am, if that's possible.

I know probably more than 99% of you know all about the IPR but I include it here for the 1% of us mushrooms out here.

(besides this is one more post from me -- no one wants to be a rookie forever)
