EGR cooler(delete)DTC P0401
Hey guys I'm new to the site but I've skimmed through most of the post. I have a 2007 6.0, that I recently installed a EGR cooler delete kit on. The issue Im having now is that I have a check engine light on, It reads a P0401which is "EGR flow insufficient". So Im wondering what can I do to make this light go off. I heard of a dummy valve, or unplugging the egr valve. Hope you can help!

Scuffy was saying as long as it's plugged in, the code should be in memory only. no light.

The only trucks that usually don't get a light are the 03-04 trucks. The 05+ trucks seem to be more sensitive. They will set a light if you remove the scoop in the uppipe. Just going by what I've heard.

hhhmm Well, just live with the Chk engine light on. On my old '94 4runner I removed and welded everything shut and the CEL was always on. Ran like a champ. You can try and clear the codes, see how long it take for it to come back (usually 15minutes). All I know is with cruise on level ground doing 65 I can see my truck vary from 17mpg up to 24mpg. and it's always in this constant very slow fluctuation. I bet it's the EGR cycling on/off. B/c I've seen my truck get 26mpg before. I don't trust the EGR. FYI- after I removed EGR on the V6 Gas 4runner my MPG's were better. and intake valves/plenum etc were always clean. This issue right here is why I'm buying a old EGR to weld shut and keeping my 15k mile original "incase".

So does anyone know if using the dummy valve will work to get the CEL off???

I don't believe so Cody. Something some just learn to live with unless you have a custom tuner turn it off. I got lucky with my Bully Dog w/outlook and kept deleting code. Bull Dog eventually won
![]() You can buy an inexpensive code reader and delete it that way. It may eventually turn it off for good. |

yeah but do you still have the cooler and valve in there?
mine is 100% gone, i welded up the intake, no more valve, and cut out the flange on the uppipe and welded that shut as well. mines as 03 so i didnt throw a code, but the sct will turn the light off. also i heard that if you just leave the valve up there in a bag or something with it plugged in it may go out. i would try it |
