Truck starts wierd after move

I just moved back to colorado from san diego. when i started it after leaving it over night it sputters and rolls a lot of black smoke. i really dont know how to explain it. maybe its the altitude difference or the cold. I am freaking out any input would be helpful

egr valve sticking possibly , get codes pulled and see if there is a p0404 or p1335 in memory , after a long highway run, ive seen egr valves give problems, thats where they get used the most is on the open road
