first deisel having problems already

I just bought my first diesel 5 days ago(against everyone telling me to not to get a 6.0). 04 f-250 6.0L FX4 crew cab, the truck has 168xxx miles on it and everything seemed to be fine. Driving home from work today I got on the gas getting onto the highway and the truck started cutting out. Made kind of a whooping sound as it was cutting out coming from the drivers side ofthe truck. All the gauges seem to be normal, truck idles fine, runs great besides that.any ideas of what this could be? I am 100% new to diesels so don't know what I am looking at or where to start and known nothing about the truck as I just bought it 5 days ago. Any help would be really appreciated thanks

Did it have a high pitched whistle noise?
Can you pop your hood and look around the coolant reservoir (referred to as degas bottle from now on) and see if there is a white chalky looking substance dried anywhere around it.

It wasn't a high pitch whisel more of a lower tone but yes it does look like there was a white chalkey residue. Can't really tell that good because the engine bay was cleaned pretty good before I bought it

The chalky residue could be 2 things. A bad degas cap or head gaskets/erg cooler problems
