4x4/vacuum problem

I have talked to some friends and read a lot of the forums about a problem with my 04 PSD 4x4, but still have a question. I have the standard response to the defrost/vent blowing ai conditioner test, indicating a vacuum leak, but what's bothering me is the manual hubs. When I put the truck in 4x4 and manually lock the hubs, I still do not have four wheel drive. If there is a vacuum leak, shouldn't the truck be 4x4 with the hubs manually locked?

I just jacked up the front of the truck, put it in 4x4 and manually locked the hubs; only the right front engaged the axle...not the left. Any ideas? I'm thinking hub failure?

I pulled the front of the truck apart today...left, front outer axle shaft is sheared!
