9 MPG Towing?
We just took a trip with the rig down to Myrtle Beach for Mustang Week and we were towing the car down in our enclosed trailer. the car weighs 3600 lbs, and the trailer weighs about 2500 lbs or so. On the trip we got 9 mpg in the truck. Is this normal? I would think it's low for a diesel. The trip down is all flat, no hills at all. We also only get about 15-17 not towing, and we've heard that some of them get about 20 or so. Am I getting false information or is something wrong with our truck?
We bought it used, but all that we know is done to the truck is listed in my sig. Not tuned either. Thanks for the help!! |

Well the two biggest components of your pull are how fast were you going, and how aerodynamic is the trailer.
I haven't made any long pulls with my stroke yet, but when I was running my F150 I could pull more weight on a lower trailer and get better MPG's then a lighter trailer that was taller. |

well, its just a big square brick. LoL round corners as usual, but nothing really aerodynamic. We were rollin about 70, 75 at times.

I haul a 5th wheel, 14k and 12.6'tall.
Mileage at 70mph is 9.5-10mpg. Mileage at 65 mph is 11.0-11.5mpg. Mileage at 60mph is 12.0+mpg. Wind resistance is a *****. |

Id say that is close. Maybe a little low. Check the filters.

I tow a 12K 5th wheel that's just over 12' tall. @ 55-60, I get ~11-12. The worst I've gotten is 9.6 mpg, but that was a mix of flat, rolling hills and up some 6-7% grades. Those always suck down the juice!

I have an 04 F-250 as well as I don't get anywhere near that bad. When I was stock I was getting about 13 highway towing and 17.5 highway when not towing. With my exhaust and EDGE I'm now closer to 20 highway while not towing. I'd recomend changing your fuel filter, running good synthetic oil, run a good fuel additive like PowerService, check tire pressure, and throw that K&N
in the garbage before it kills your turbo (if it hasn't already).

I didnt see he had a k&n. But as mentioned before, they suck.
