6L F350 smoking, overheating ..

My '06 recently started to smoke like crazy, mainly when accelerating, smokes much less when I let off. Also overheating within 10 minutes of driving and the smoke reeks like coolant. The truck loses power frequently, before reaching the overheating stage. Smoke color varies between thick white, dark blue and sometimes a little black. It also seems to be doing a messed up jerking motion , almost like a sh1tty manual transmission operator. And not while losing power either, seems more like a tranny feeling.

Unfortunately, all 8 ford dealers in our city have a wait time of 4 - 6 weeks even for a diag.

The truck has coverage under an extended Ford warranty until Dec 2009 or another 79,000KM. The truck currently has 61,000km on it.

I read numerous posts regarding issues like i mentioned but failed to see one with all issues combined.

thanks yall,

taco

Well, since you say the smoke smells like coolant and with the overheating problem I would ge it diagnosed SOON! My first thought would be a head gasket. But I'm new to the diesel world so I'm not sure. But with the exhaust smelling like coolant. Man, it just dosen't sound good. Sorry...

Yea I would agree with Code03..Sounds like the head gaskets are shot...I am no expert diesel mechanic either but from what I've been reading and hearing sure sounds like it. Hope it's something simple, good luck!

EGR valve and or cooler. My cousins did the same thing anytime motor was under a load. Plums of smoke. A wonderfull jerking motioin similar to someone poping the clutch while driving a stick. Just my 2 cents.

mine truck is doing the same thing. I hired a mechanic from the city to work on it. I currently have a cracked EGR cooler. If you drive with the EGR problem then you will most likely blow your head gaskets.

EGR cooler most likely; you should get it fixed pretty quickly or you could hydro-lock your engine. Driving with a bad EGR cooler will not have any effect on your head gaskets.
