you have sensors in the bumber that detect objects within a certain distance. IF there is nothing behind you when you back up, there should be no beap. If your tailgate is down, it will fool the sensors and they will beap all the time in reverse. IF you have a trailer behind you it will beap in reverse.
When your bumper gets withing i think 6' of an object when backing they begin to beap and as you get closer, the beap gets faster untill you get within 6" of the object the beap them becomes a solid tone. very handy when parralel parking.

Very handy when parking in general!! My parking lot at work is usually CRAMED full and designed for honda civics. As long as I remember if I have a hitch or not on the truck will also help

If it stopped working then i guess it could be a fuse. I know little about electronics so i really would haveto take it to the dealer if it were me. Maybe those sensors go bad but there is 4 of them on the rear bumper and I can't imagine they all went bad at once.
Don't know...maybe someone else can help you out with this question.
