Bad alternator / battery question

2004 F250 with 170k... only mods are KN intake and exhaust....

My battery dash light came on the other day... one battery checked out ok, the other was bad.... replaced the bad battery and the alternator tested bad. My question is, could/would a bad alternator/battery cause black smoke?

I was thinking if the alternator is bad, maybe the FICM isnt getting the correct volts it needs....maybe causing black smoke...?

Anyone know if this is possible at all?

I just replaced the FICM so its brand new along with EGR cooler, oil cooler, #1injector, EGR valve... cleaned the EBP sensor and still getting more smoke than normal on normal acceleration after it warms up... no noticeable loss of power at all...

Low voltage to the ficm could cause damage. How long did it run with the battery light on?

It would go on for about 10 minutes then turn off... for about 10.. then come back on.. I put a meter to them and one showed 12.7v the other 12.9. I would guess total time the batt light was one was maybe 45min to 1 hours..
