Starter Issue

So i put a new flywheel, starter, and hpop o-ring kit in my 03 F-250 6.0 4x4. After i got it put together it wouldnt start. It would just click. Well i re aligned the tranny to see if that would work and only got a click. So i took a screwdriver and crossed the two post on the starter and bam sh roared to life. It ran for a couple of days and then it went back to clicking. So i ohm'd the small wire out and got .2. then i cleaned out some of the relays in the engine bay. There was some mud from a couple of years ago in there. Looked at some of the fuses but the haynes manual i have doesnt show the 2003 6.0 electric diagram so i didnt have anything to go on. so put everything back together and it started right up. It got me to work and back on friday and monday for dinner. But today i went to go back to work and got the dreadful click again, threw a screwdriver back up there and started right up. I got back to work shut the truck off and restarted it with the key just fine but i know i will go out there later tonight and i will get the click noise. Im not sure what it could be. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks

Steve

the only issues i had before was a no hot start. which is why i put in the new o-ring kit and the starter would spin but wouldnt engage the flywheel. Which is why i replaced the flywheel but when we got tranny down the flywheel looked really good but we changed it out anyways since we had done all the work. and thats when we replaced the stater.

I will take the starter down tomorrow and take it to the shop and have them test it.

I was pretty heated on the Hpop. I just had this engine built back in 2011. the company put the wrong o-ring in under the hpop.

the starter may test good

parts houses typically can't real world test a starter since they can't put a flywheel load on it

so if it spins they call it good

and on the solenoid the ones I have seen use a contact disc and that disc moves every start so it's working on a different area but once you have a bad spot it wont work

so either have em swap the whole thing / or the solenoid

or at least have em test the starter multiple times using the solenoid start post and not just the large starter post

your old starter probably had a bendex issue and it wasn't throwing out the gear into the flywheel
