could it be batteries? P0620 &p0623

Ok. The day I bought the truck the alternator went bad, replaced it with new (9 mos ago). It has optima red tops in it, and ive been concerned because the top is bulging at each cell. The whole time when id pull codes Id get both P0620 and P0623. If I clear them they might not come back on for a few days. When I start it the voltmeter reads 11.5 ish for a few mins. Then it jumps to 13v and climbs to 14v. After its ran a few mins it never drops from 14. Had the batts and alternator tested at Autozone today (it was 100deg). Passenger bat tested good and at 21% charge and driver batt was good with 74% charge. There is no reasonfor them to not have a decent charge (havent driven for less then 10mins at a time for a few days) also when cranking warm the voltage goes down to 10.5v. Anyone know if this looks like bad batteries? Also I plan on going with regular batteries, can I pmix a redtop in with a new regular battery? Im expecting to buy a new pair tomorow night.

Thanks

do not mix

replace both as a matched set or 1 will drain into the other

you should have a definitive answer on the batteries if you pull them and have them load tested

I need to go look at your codes but that is my 2 cents so far

Batts were load tested seperately, they showed a PASS on the load test but the passenger side doesnt seem to want to get the charge up. Ill replace both then I guess, I just dont want to spend the money on them if they arent actually bad.

not saying the batteries are definitely your problem but that test sound tainted

they either take a full charge or don't IMHO

and they either pass or fail a load test but only after they verify they are fully charged

IMHO

I don't like Optima anymore and bulging is scary
get the highest CCA batt you can

the two codes are for charge lamp and alt but it seems to be a code for a dual alt truck ?? does your charge light illuminate with key on cluster lights all on cycle ?

Light turns on when Im warming the plugs. My guess is that the voltage is low when the alt first kicks on because the batteries are sucking everything out of it. I sure hope its just the batteries. Ill plan on getting them tomorrow but if anyone has insight on it to check something or rule out something else that would be great. Thanks zmann
