Oops.. fuel tank question

Greetings-

I have been using a Ford diesel additive with great results. Yesterday I was refueling and went to put a squrit of the additive in, and did not notice that the paper seal (which is supposed to stay in the cap) was stuck to the end of the bottle, and it went into the tank before I could stop it. I am a bit worried about this.. should I have the tank dropped and flushed out immediately?? The paper disc is about 3/4" dia and 1/16" thick.

btw - I have had the truck for a month now and absolutely love it. I cannot believe how well a truck this size handles and what a smooth ride it has. I pulled a trailer the last two days (6' x 12' w/ 2500lbs load) and except for some bumps in the road I could not even tell I was pulling it.

Thanks
Ryan

Personally I wouldn't worry about that little paper seal. Being there is a filter screen on the fuel pick up tube. The paper seal will not make it into the fuel system.

But if your worried about the paper seal then use a floor jack and lower the tank down and then remove the fuel pick up assembly and fish the paper seal out. It takes about 45 minutes to drop the fuel tank. At least that is how long it took me my first time.

The only time it may become a problem is when the tank gets low, but I think you will be fine. Over time that paper will likely degrade and if it makes it through the pickup screen will be caught by the primary filter. I don't feel that it's worth the effort to pull the tank, but you could always pull the tank, retrieve the trash and do the harpoon mod at the same time.

I agree with Bigcountry, you should not have an issue. The screen should catch it, but you can always drop the tank, once the fuel level is low enough and go fishing. Welcome to the org! What kind of truck do you have. Give us some information in your signature.
