Turbo/EGR help

Hey guys, today while driving my truck up a hill, completely empty (no load or trailer) I shifted to 3rd gear and it bogged down, so I down shifted to 2nd only to find that I wasn't building any boost. About 30 seconds after cresting the hill the truck was building boost again. A little while later I drove up the same hill with the same result so I'm not sure if it was coincidence or not, but the truck climbs other hills without any problems. I did some reading on here and from the sounds of it, maybe it is a dirty EGR valve or a sticking vein in the turbo? Well, I'm fairly new to the diesel engine so any help is greatly appreciated. Also is there any way to remove the EGR and are there any negative effects to doing it? Sorry for such a long post and thanks.

Well I decided to bring the truck to the dealer, turned out it was a bad turbo so they replaced it along with the EGR valve and Wastegate. Had the truck back in 2 days and no more turbo sticking!

yup. you're right. just for looks. lol We have a variable vane turbo, the opening and closing of the vanes replaces the waste gate. Why would I lie or make that up dude?
