EGR Help 2005 F350 6.0 72K

PLease help! 2005 F350 6.0 with about 72,000 miles. I have been having the truck turn very sluggish (4 or 5 times)with very little response to the accelerator. After creeping to the side of the road and slowly working the petal, it slowly comes back to life. Also noted is the major amount of smoke blowing out the exaust. A firend told me its the egr and probably had some carbon built up in it. I took it out and used carburator cleaner to clean it. It was filthy. I also replaced the 3 rings (1 gasket, 2 o rings). I put it back in and it did it again within 10 minutes of driving. Not sure if I should replace the egr or if it could be residual pieces of carbon down in the system that would clog a new one? It did have quite a bit in the bottom of the hole which i cleaned out the best I could. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

If you can find a shop near you that does Diesel Induction Service..that will help clean out all of your systems. They pull the EGR Valve out and put a temporary housing in its place to add chemicals at controlled intervals and amounts. Breaks up the buildup inside. I try to have it done every 2 years or so. Requires an oil change right after.
