defective rear main seals

I have a couple of friends with new trucks and both had oil leaks and the dealer said it was caused by defective rear main seals... THAT SUCKS... $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 AND A OIL LEAK.

ive seen a couple rear mains leak, but it is a WAY to common misdiagnosis...

Exactly where is the oil dripping from??

Is there any oil presand in the valley of the motor in the turbo area??

is the oil very dark like engine oil or is it almost clear??

I had a leak this weekend too. I only have 11K on my 2006. The oil pan drain plug was pretty tight, but I guess not tight enough. I cranked it down a little bit more and the leak stopped. Sounds like a really simple thing, but tight wasn't tight enough. Now it is VERY tight!

This is unbelievable, When I first bought the truck I saw a drip hanging from the bell housing so I wiped it off with a rag and did not think anything about it and than when I was checking for the block heater cord yesterday and notice oil dripping from the bell housing again.
I called the dealer and they are taking it in tomorrow to take a look at it and they want to charge me $50 for the block heater cord that should have been installed day 1.
I can guarantee that I will get the cord for nothing if the rear main seal is leaking.

Went to the dealer this morning and they did varify that there is a leak and they also verified that there is a block heater without the cord.

They were ordering the cord today at NO charge and as soon as it comes in they are going to take the truck and pull the tranny to see where the leak is coming from, My service manager said that it may be the rear main seal but he couldn't say until he gets it apart.

They said it is such a minor leak that there is no problem driving it for now but I plan on keeping an eye on it.
