ICP Sensor Issues

Well, It looks like my ICP sensor has bit the dust. I have oil comming down from the top of motor in back, dripping down on either side of bellhousing, ( more on drivers side though.) And the idle got real choppy today, Sounds like ICP right? Techs or anyone else done this sensor and could give me any tips? It looks to be a PITA.

If your still under the 5/100 warranty it would be covered by the dealer with a $100 deductable....

If not the easiest way to replace it is from below. Take the three bolts off that hold the heat shield to the back of the motor.....one 13mm to the head thats tough to see and the two 8 or 10 mm bolts that go to the back of the block.....

unplug the sensor and clean the connector really good with brake clean...

Use a 1 1/16" crows foot to remove the sensor.....and put a new one in.

Your arm will be all scraped up from the coarsness of reaching over the tranny....and its kind a a PITA job....but its not terribly difficult...

Thanks for the response Marc, I didn't think I was still in the 5 yr warranty being an 03 with 72,000 miles, or does it go till the end of 08? but I kind of doubt they would warranty it with the mods I have on the truck anyway, so I actually didn't even check. I figured I was gonna have to do this one. thnaks for the tips.

Rob, I bought the truck used about 2 1/2 yrs. ago. Well, I went at it today with this sensor, and it was a pita, I ended up going at it from the top because with my lift it was difficult to reach all the way up to the top of the motor. So I removed the degas bottle, Intake, FICM and mount, and wiring harness, and I was finally able to see the sensor, I got it out with a 27mm deep well, and it did have oil in it. So I cleaned out the weatherpac connector with brakekleen like marc suggested, and installed the new sensor. Put it all back together, and started it up. Now the oil leak is stopped, however the truck still has a really choppy idle. and seems low on power, but still drives ok. I have no cel, and no codes. I am tired and really ticked off at this point. Any ideas?

pics

And heres some pics of the fun I had today.
this is with some of the junk out of the way.

heres the oily weatherpac

This is the leaking culprit, note the oil inside the sensor connector.

New sensor.

And pic with the old sensor removed.

I highly recommend this repair for anyone who has a complete afternoon to waste , and feels like they need to elevate their blood pressure.

Yah, shawn, It is a bit of a pain, but next time (hopefully never) I would be able to get it quicker now that I know whats involved. I just don't know if something else is up, if it was a coincidence that the truck started running like crap the same time the icp started leaking. Maybe I should of changed the pigtail connection too ?
