Cool Tow Command problems

Newbie here. Maybe you can help? I recently got a code on my dash says TBC problem. My owners manual says to take it to a dealer but at 38000 miles I have no warranty!!! Is there anything I can do to check it?? I bought the truck used and the previous owner pulled alot with it (no fifth or gooseneck) I put my camper in it and used a pigtail to connect my camper to the trailer plug! Any advice would help thanks

this is pretty easy to diagnose. First off you need to check ALL the wiring and look at any splices that may have been made. Fix all of them and recheck. If its setting the light with no trailer hooked up and you know all the wiring is good, you need to replace the tow command module (the actual brake controller) MAKE SURE to check the wiring first, as resistance or shorts will cause the same concern..
