2003 Fuel Pump Vs 2006 Fuel Pump question

So on my 2003 my fuel pump took a s**t last night. I talked to a buddy that has a couple 6.0's he's parting out and he had a good fuel pump out of a 2006.

I picked it up from him today and pulled the old one...

The old one has 3 plugs on it and the 06 one has 2...I thought about putting the cover from my pump which has the extra plug and putting it on the 06 pump. Any ideas if this will work?

Also when I pulled the cover off the side of my 03 pump I found metal shavings in it

Is this the circular end of the pump that actually goes bad? Can I just swap these on those pumps?

You'd be better off with the 06 pump. 03-04 had a fuel heater in the side cover that would occassionally short out from water in the seperator and blow a pretty critical fuse. Later trucks came without a fuel heater and a new jumper harness that deleted the plug. You'd be fine just taping off the plug

it would be wise to open up the 06 pump on the bench to make sure it's clean inside and no metal particules floating around in there
