Just bought the K&N Performance kit yesterday. Will this alone adversely effect my power? If so I'll take it back.
I ran away from the K&N after reading a few posts and marc tellin me how many eng. replacements his shop has done that were running K&N. I think you can do the BHAF mod on your truck just like i did mine but don't quote me on that.

I think someone's pulling your leg i own a 6.0 late 03 early 04 and i got 4in exshaust and a big chip and i never had a engine light come on-only when a sensor failed. Diesels don't run off back pressure, they run on compression. I work on diesels for a living. The back pressure neede is done through the down pipe.

that is not true on a 6.0. Backpressure is needed to allow EGR flow.......

Its not an issue if you dont have the latest programming at all, since EGR flow isnt allowed at idle and MAP sensor readings also arent used at idle, but the latest programmig uses both which can cause problems with exhaust or open air filters.......

I agree with Marc i had an early 04 f250 with 6.0 had 4 inch down pipe with 5 inch back with a high flow muffler!THe check engine lite will come on if you have the latest computer tuning! Also i put back on the factory intake and it helped a little but the best thing to do on there truck is a 4 inch with cat and muffler and also a intake and your choice of programmer! The 4 inch still sounds good but the 5 inch sounds like a 747 jet takeing off!

Men,

My engine light just came on last week. I did put on a Magna flow exhaust 4" and removed the Cat.Converter; straight pipe to the rear. I also installed an AFE air intake. The truck runs great. If I am getting this right. The engine light is most likely due to not enough back pressure from the mods I did? And, the only thing I can do is put on a cat. converter?

well maybe the cat will work but i heard if your running a straight pipe that you shouldnt put the intake on the truck b/c of the EGR valve. But i dont exactly know marc would be best to know of this. I just know from experience with a 5 inch straight pipe and a AFE intake. The straight pipe with out the intake didnt set my check engine lite on but once i did the intake it came on b/c f egr is what i heard

Frankie, is your trucked chipped??

If it is, after you do the battery thing, go out and run it and try to get the CEL light to come back on. Drive it stock till it does. If you cant get the light to come back on, cancel the appointment.....with no code there is nothing they will do for you for a "CEL that they cant verify"....

What year is your truck and has it ever been in for a "reprogram" and when???
Also, it is possible that lack of back pressure is causing this.....

Marc,

2006 with no chip and it has never been reprogrammed. I have no idea why the light came on, but in reading the exhaust problems, I am guessing that it is the exhaust? I put an AFE intake and a Magna Flow 4" exhaust system that I was forced to remove the Cat. Converter, because it didn't fit. The truck runs great, but I am a very miticulous person, and the light is driving me crazy. Any recommendations/suggestions? Should I buy the Magna Flow Cat. Converter?

Frankie
