2004 6.0 F250

I'm new here, and I want to apologize upfront if this is a repeated topic. I have owned my F250 for a year now, with no problems other than faulty alternator ( two months after purchase). My truck is all stock with exception of 6" body lift, and 37" tires. I was wondering what I could do to be proactive about my truck to avoid EGR Cooler problems. I change my oil every 5,000 miles, and filter every 10,000 miles. I tow maybe 1,000lbs every two weeks for 90 miles (small trailer for dirtbikes). Any input is appreciated (other than straight 6.0 bashing)! Thank you!

Coolant filter and a monitor is necessary. There is a sticky on monitoring the 6.0. A change to extended life coolant with the cat ec-1 rating is a smart move, or 30k mile maintenance on the ford gold G05 is absolutely necessary. Filter asap, anything else once you hook the monitor up and get some numbers on ect vs eot. That will give you the health of the oil cooler.

Just making sure I'm getting everything- change coolant filter and replace coolant with ec-1 rating, and buy a monitor for the cooler?

Install a coolant filter, purchase a monitor for ect, eot, boost, icp, ficm, voltage.......etc. Check oil cooler health, post up your numbers, go from there. Clogged oil coolers cause, egr cooler failures. Consider switching to elc if your oil cooler is clogged, or your ford gold hasn't been maintained properly.

what year is your truck? check this link. you can't go wrong with any bpd products (Bullet Proof Diesel). If you don't care about emissions then do an egr delete they are all about the same.

Thanks for your help southend! I'll definitely look into it, hope it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg. Scparish, my F250 is a 2004. One of my friends who prowled these forums recommended a bulletproof kit but said it would be in the $3,000 range which I definitely can't afford. I'm not worried about emissions, I'm from Missouri and they don't care last time I checked. I'm not planning any performance mods for this truck, definitely after I upgrade to a newer year though I'll be going that route.

I understand your concern, I never recommend that people run out and spend 3k on these trucks prior to diagnosing the health. I personally think it's inaccurate to suggest that these trucks are unreliable unless you go buy all bpd parts. I believe they are great products though, that is just my opinion. What I have suggested is the bare minimum for understanding the health of your truck, and preventing future failures.
