6.0 shut down then no start issue

First off would like to say hello. I myself am a Duramax owner but I dont care for the whole FORD/GM/RAM fight. I love diesels and really dont care what the badge says. The thing is I am trying to help a buddy make his 6.0 a reliable engine. the truck is a 2003 F-250. here is the issue. starts with no issue. FICIM tested fine, when he stops and turns off the truck for say 10 min of so (filling up, smokes and what not) the truck turns over but wont start. after sitting for 5-10 min it will start. Thoughts?

Hmmm, not sure. Wonder if he's getting combustion gasses in the fuel rail. Pull the secondary fuel filter, hfcm fuse, and ficm relay. Crank it over and see if bubbles come up in the housing.

Sent from my phone that somebody didn't help me get.

Any monitor on it? You could probably get better advice if we had some parameters.

ICP
IPR
FICM voltage
FICM sync?

Could be the high pressure oil pump too, the early 6.0's are not as good as the newer (so I hear).

the 03-04.5 pumps are better than the new ones due to they dont have the failed stc fitting.

Yes but the older original 03-early 04 pumps have a staked in check ball that can pop out.

your right. But get the revised pump or keep that check ball in there and you have a reliable pump.. I guess just like the 05 and up pumps with the stc..
