Secondary Air sound
Alright, so this may be normal and im an idiot... but thats why i joined this forum, to prove or disprove me being an idiot, lol
So around 10 mph or so i hear this loudish vaccumn sound then i hear the turbo whistle as i give it some gas. Well once i let off, u hear the turbo spool wind down and cut off, but then this darn vaccumn sound is slower to disipate. Im going to make a video and post it, but the dealer charged me 310 bucks to take the turbo off and reseal everything for which that they said "fixed this secondary noise". Now i dont recall this noise on other 6L when i test drove them before i bought mine, which is my cause for concern. Frankly, i dont even remember mind sounding the way it is now... Any thoughts before i post up the video. BTW, the truck goes back to the dealer tomorrow for this and a diff issue they didnt "fix" BTW, truck is a 2006 6.0 stock everything ( as far as i know ) Thanks, -Ellery |

I have this sound as well in my truk.. I think its the same as yours is describing? Mines an 04- has had this sound since day one, no problems and is normal. Its supposedly the turbo velocity noise/ vibration of the turbo... I rememeber reading it on a ford bulletin. I also had my ford mechanic bud look at it and no problems were found.. I know this doesnt help not sure i can take a video of it this week and you can compare.

So, after going to 3 different shops, 2 dealer and one indep Diesel Mech, apparently Ford used two different types of Turbo's/housings and the version w/ the larger housing makes this air whistle sound seperate from the turbo spool.
it almost sounds like a household Vaccumn cleaner turning on and then shutting down. its pretty damn annoying at low speeds though, lol Either way, maybe by upgrading the turbo to a Powermax or something down the road will take care of this noise. Right now, my radio is doing a good job at drowning it out. |
