Need Help

I have been researching on this sight and think i have an egr problem but i would like to confirm some thoughts on short term fix until i can get in the shop. I have a 07 F250 with 6.0. Today we were driving to town and all of sudden lost power and blew heavy white smoke. Pulled over got out and didnt notice a smell and white smoke stopped. We continued driving 30 min no issues. Went to the movies came out and was driving home. No problems until all of a sudden about 20 min later truck lost power and blew black smoke and bucked/jerked like there was no fuel. Was running low on fuel all gauges were reading normal. Stopped got fuel and from there all the way home (10 miles) truck would buck/jerk on take off and blow black smoke. Would let off pedal and bucking would slow and eventually mellow until i would try and accelarate then start again. Finaly the cel came on but everything still read fine. Any ideas?
