Getting Worse

As some of you know, I've been troubleshooting a problem I'm having with my truck jerking back randomly at various speeds. Various mechanics have narrowed it down to an engine issue, but not sure what exactly it could be. Over the past few weeks, I've gotten some new symptoms for the problem...

1. Jerks back (sometimes hard, sometimes soft) at 40+ MPH (used to be 50mph+)
2. Jerks worse when it's raining outside
3. Very Rough Cold Start (so bad it died today on first startup)
4. Black Smoke for first 30 seconds of rough startup (yesterday it was a little white mixed with black)
5. Inconsistent power
6. Lack of Power when for first 5 minutes after startup
7. Sometimes it drives like a brand new truck with a chip and no problems.
8. 101,800 miles, AT, 2003 6.0L

I have changed the Air and Fuel Filters...hoping it would be an easy fix, but that hasn't been the case so far. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance!

I would drop the tank and check the pick up tubes. Your screens maybe clogged up. Which would give you poor fuel supply.

I'm voting injectors or EGR. Have you hooked it up and checked it for codes? Recent oil change or how long? Pulling the EGR to clean is pretty easy to do, although first time out may be a biotch. Use CARB cleaner NOT brake cleaner!!!. Has the turbo ever been cleaned? You could have multiple "simple" problems that can give you similar symptoms.

Sometimes jerking can be from driveline issues such as incorrect driveshaft angles, or worn out U joints. Worth looking at...

My brothers 04 6.0 would randomly jerk forward and run funny. It was his ICP sensor. Good luck

Maybe that's what it is, I dunno. It has been getting worse and worse as time has gone by...I'm really just waiting to have the money to get it fixed. Is it easy to get to these parts so I can check it myself?

I think the early build 6.0's were kinda a b***H to get at. I think they are under the turbo in the back for the ICP that is. I think you can get to it but a lift would be nice, so your not breaking your back and neck. Scuffy will probably let you know exactly where its at!

if it is early production and the icp is located on the backside of the engine , it can be reached from the backside , it is hard to get to , you might look at from the bottom looking up at the back side of the engine and just see if you see any oil leaking from where the icp sensor is located , if its leaking which they are bad to do , that very well may be your problem

Now that you mention a leaking...I noticed a leak coming from the engine a month ago. It's on the front of the tranny, but I know it's from the engine somewhere. My truck is only 4 months away from being an '04...but would that still be the issue?
