Long crank...key off...fires right up 2nd try...
I've searched the forum for 3 days and read so many cranking and not starting issues I feel weird.... or fortunate.
2006 model. For about the past 6 weeks, typically when cold, the first attempt does not crank. Turn the key off, and the second attempt it fires right up. Not every time though but enough for myself and my wife to notice it. T6 5W40, Motorcraft filters, last change was several months back. No maintenance done recently (not time) and nothing changed or upgraded recently either. No white smoke when it does start, no rough idle or spitting. No loss of power, no surge, no misses during cranking attempt, no oil pressure spikes on gauges, runs great while driving, strong idle, batteries have been taken out and charged full. Both are 850 amp and both read above 86% when I initially hooked them up to charge. Same thing on full charge. Changed the oil this weekend, was time, and went with Mobil 1 5W40 and 8OZ of Rev-X. It is quieter even over the T6 and I don't have injector issues as it was a good cold starter before the T6 switch - just going that extra bit to keep her running good. Same cranking thing however... Ideas??

You should check your fuel filters, and fuel pressure. Do you have a blue spring update? Do you have a monitor?

Got the fuel filters to change today. Monitor? I have the SCT. Are one of the parameters in the monitoring section something I can use to see an issue possibly?

Ok. Got it hooked up. Under the monitor setting, which abbreviation is for the ficm voltage?

FICM reading was good. The HPOP however wasn't and gave out on me 100+ miles from home. Diesel shop is replacing it this week, full EGR delete, new oil cooler, new CAT-1 coolant, new glow plugs and adding custom tunes to my SCT now. She's already got studs & O-ring gaskets from the previous owner so I should be good to go now!!!!

I'd have to look again when I get back home. I don't recall.
Truck runs great!! Wasn't a delete but rather cooler block front and rear so everything still looks factory since I have 15000 more miles of warranty. Welded stainless steel plugs in both ends. Drove form GA to NC yesterday and my EOT/ECT was 196/188. Before the egr block, it was 196/194-ish... Starts right up now and runs so much smoother. Sent from my iPhone using Autoguide.com App |
