1/4 tank issues

Last week I had a problem with my truck running out of fuel with about 60 miles left to go according to the computer. Truck started sputtering, so I immediately stopped and shut off the truck and got a buddy to bring me some fuel. Since I've owned the truck I have never seen my fuel light come on because I'm afraid I will run out of fuel. Would a tank sump fix this?

There is a little orange check valve in the side that can pop out. The ones my 96 7.3 disintegrated into pieces and then it sucked up trash. That was at about 250k miles. As far as I can tell, they are the same exact part. The link to the thread I added shows a better picture. I think it may have a link to the part.

Welcome, I tilted the bed on my 96 by myself, but when I realized it had a half inch of sludge and rust, I dropped the tanks. It wasnt too hard.
