Slow Fuel Gauge

I’ve just bought a 2003 F-350 with the PSD 6.0 when I fill it up with fuel it takes a long time to show full. Last time it took about 30 miles and it doesn’t go up when the truck is off either only when the truck is on. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if your engine was running or not but when I bought mine they told me to shut the engine off when refueling or it will take along time for the gauge to go up.

My 05 has a note in the owners manual that to get a quicker response from the fuel gauge you need to turn the key off and on again.

No the truck was not running. I'm talking about it took about two days for me to drive the 30 miles that it took for the guage to go up and that was with about 10 stops.

I hate to drag out an old post, but did anyone ever figure this out? Mine hadn't done this until I filled up yesterday. I drove it about 20 miles today and it's finally about where it needs to be. If it makes a difference I did "top it off" a bit more than usual. Thanks!

try adding some chevron with techron additive. Ford claims this can help sending unit problems caused by a tank of fuel that might have had a little too much sulfer causing the sending unit to act funn.....

A little late here. If you top off your tank after the automatic shut off at the pump, it can do that. After the auto shut off, I add five more gallons. It only happened to me once (also to my dad once), but after I drove for about 5 mins, the gauge showed empty and fuel light came on. I turned it off and on again, went smooth. But the same has happened to me where it didn't show full until I ran about 30-40 miles. Dealer said that fueling up while truck is running can break the gauges (not sure about that), and didn't recommend even "topping off". But I can get at minimum 5 gals. after auto shut off.
