6.0 coolant gauge reading very low, cold start?

Ok, I purchased a 2003 f350 6.0 with 134k miles recently, and I have noticed that the coolant gauge isn't reading above the C. It tends to cold start a lot lately. I'm wondering if this would have anything to do with that, any opinions would help thanks.

If the gauge doesn't move after driving then it's probably the ECT sending unit which is just below your thermostat. If the gauge eventually comes up then it could be that your thermostat needs replacing as they usually fail open.

Would that explain the cold start issue?

With a failed sender the PCM is assuming first case scenario I'm guessing.

Yeah the gauge comes up just a little, barely above the C. Since I've had it it tends to have trouble starting and I just noticed the engine coolant gauge hardly moving, so what do you think I should investigate?
