2005 F-350 6.0 powerstroke banging noise near firewall

I purchased a 2005 4x4 F-350 Powerstroke in March. Just recently I've noticed that when I turn my air or heat on, i get a slight banging noise that sounds like it's coming from the firewall or the floor. It is intermittent when I keep the air or heat on, but it is most pronounced when I first turn the air or heat on. Any suggestions???

it is a normal condition, there is even a factory TSB (technical service bullitin) on it. it usually only happens right after start up. since your motor does not build vacume, it relies on a vacume pump. vacume is not allowed into the heater system till sufficient vacume is built up by the pump. once the vacume is there, it allows it to the vacume selenoids, and the blend doors that controll your heat and where it comes from slam shut or open to the position you have the switches set. it is just a charactaristic of a desiel, they all do it, just some people dont notice it and some are not as loud.

I've never noticed it in my 7.3, but of course it's a 7.3....much noiser than a 6.0

as long as your heater is working on all functions right, nothing to worry about.

I couldn't take away your job, there's plenty of "sick-0's" out there...job security! (j/k all you 6.0 guys!)
