egt readings
i'm a newbie to this site and to the diesel world but have some questions does anyone have the Banks power PDA along with AFE stage 2 with 4" MBRP exhaust. recently purchased PDA off e-bay installed and works fine. but had service work to the engine (rear main seal) and mechanic told me that if i install the thermocouple on the manifold that it will void powerstroke warranty and since it would have been a thousand dollars
to replace the rear main seal had i not had the warranty i feel better just strapping it to the manifold and wrapping with header wrap to save the warranty but need to know what i should experience as far as egt's at the different settings running it at three now scared to go any higher and highest is 460F. any input would be Great. Banks won't talk to me because i purchased used through ebay.

Attached to the outside of the manifold?! That won't get you tmeps anywhere near close to what it actually is. At least put it post-turbo in the downpipe. Now someone can correct me if I am wrong, but they can't really deny your warranty for a rear main seal, because of a egt probe. They could deny the warranty if you had a manifold leak or crack or something, or maybe a damaged turbine on the turbo, but it has to be related. They can't say that since you have an aftermarket stereo they won't warranty the brakes. At least that is how the warranty thing was always explained to me. Hope you can find out better info, but the EGT Thermocouple needs to be inside the exhaust pipe, either pre-turbo (preferred) or post-turbo.

Welcome to the site!
Wow?!? I would look for a new mechanic. I agree Green, as stated above they shouldn't void the warranty(thought they couldn't) unless it was related to the aftermarket part. I thought teh responsibility was on the dealer to prove the aftermarket made the failure. You need to have the egt probe pre-turbo IMO! anything after the turbo I wouldn't trust. For egt's I don't know, I'm pre-turbo and 5-700 highway, and 1200 when I floor it but pre-turbo is I think 4-500 higher, NOT SURE tho. |

to the org. I agree that the only accurate way of measuring your EGT's is in the exhaust manifold... You should check out the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act for more details related to your warranty.
