No check engine light....

Hello everyone, I have a stock 2006 F-250 that I bought a month ago. this truck runs great with no known problems. at least so I thought, I went to my local emission testing station only to FAIL.. First off I found out my check engine light does NOT work at all. even if we cycle the key switch it never comes on. they also said I had a p2290 code. So I bought a scan gauge from bullet proof Diesel so I can monitor the truck...I have been reading these forums for a few weeks before posting this. I recently took my truck to Ford to have all fluids and filters changed since I have no idea what the previous owner did to the truck. my mileage just turned 101K.. the truck had a new egr valve and cooler at 90K... Now I have been driving 1 week with no codes on the scanner...However the check engine light will NOT come on at all, so my emission testing station will Not pass me..I took the instrument cluster out hoping it was just a burnt bulb..guess what, the cluster has illumination lights all around the cluster and it looks to have LED's for the check engine and a few others... Any suggestions??? Is there a way I can force the PCM to attempt to turn on the LED?? I would assume they use a LED so someone cant just pull out the bulb.. Any help will be greatly appreciated..THANKS!!!!
