2294 degree EGT
I was driving home from work and my edge said that my egt was 2294, it was freaking out so i pulled off the side of the road and immediately checked under the hood and everything is fine, runs fine and everything. Unhooked the probe and it now reads the usual 100 (engine bay temp). The ohm reading on the probe is 18... how common is it for these probes to go bad? What causes them to act up like this?

Lets just say I don't think you have to worry that you were actually at 2300*. what is the probe reading now while driving?

Wow! I'm not sure what causes it be interesting to find out. I could only imagine 2300 EGTs don't think you would of been able to pullover, the motor prob would of started to come apart by then I'd imagine.

Well while driving it reads 2248, with koeo it was reading 580 to 720 ish as soon as i started it back up it was in the 1800s... yeah if it was actually 2240 degrees there should have been rods going through the block and flames out the tail pipe ...

Either the probe is junk or you might have a broken/shorting wire in the harness.
Try doing a wiggle test and see if the gauge changes. |

I'm positive the probe is bad because it was showing 18 ohms... that's a bit high. I'm just curious what happened that caused it to go bad. I haven't been running the truck had at all. Highest get its seen since I've had it is just above 900 and its a rarity. I'll test for a short or ground somewhere in the morning.

I think they can just do that, no rhyme or reason
