another 6.0 question

so a guy i work with was telling me he just got a 2003 F-250 with the 6.0, he has noticed a bit of white smoke on startup and at idle. i mentioned a head gasket maybe, but then he said its more like smoke than steam coming from the exhaust. it is also intermittent, so it doesnt do it all the time. any ideas??

if i were him i would have it checked to see if it has been programmed to the latest calibration , thats where i would start

The latest calibration is for black smoke at start up caused by junk building up in the injector solinoids not for white smoke. Double check that it is smoke not steam and check the coolant level. If the coolant is low it may be a slow leak in the egr cooler which is a high failure point in this engine especialy if it is used hard. If it is smoke have a dealer run a injector contribution test to check for weak injectors.
