How to tell if injectors are original?
I recently had my truck into the Ford dealer to fix a hyrdolocked motor due to a bad injector. I had my truck into another performance shop less than a year ago to replace all 8 injectors as I was told about 1/2 of them were dead or on their way out. The Ford dealer calls me and tells me that the only injector that is aftermarket is the one that is bad and it was installed incorrectly causing the motor to hydrolock. The other 7 are original according to the dealer.
Is there a way to tell if an injector is original? Once it is pulled is there a part number that can be crossed referenced as being original? Any thoughts? I feel like I am getting screwed from a bunch of different angles here...

sounds to me like you are getting screwed, but why did you not take it back to the performance shop, they should warantee their work, being that it was only a year ago

My truck broke down 700 miles away. The tow 5 miles away to the ford dealer was $185, I can't imagine what a 700 mile tow would cost. I know the ford dealer is not screwing me, but I need to figure out the I issue with the injectors and figure out whether they were replaced or not

I don't know that there is a way to tell if they were replaced, being that most injectors are rebuilt and not "new", so you would have part numbers from ford on the side of them anyway, if the perfomrance shop was supposed to have put bigger nozzles on them, thats where I would look and see if they actually are, or if they are stock tip size, good luck, and is sucks to be in that spot you are in

I don't know if this info applies to your 04, here is what I've read about 2004.25-2007 injectors. to be honest I've never paid attention to if this is factual or not. All I know is the injectors in my truck are all the same color.
4C3Z-9E527-AA, original factory injector, black solenoid on top of injector 4C3Z-9E527-BRM, Remanufactured factory injector, gray solenoid on top of injector. You should be able to look at your injector tops and tell if any solenoids are colored differently. Ford remans will have RM stamped somewhere on them in the etched numbers. The catch is some aftermarket reman injector companies don't switch out the solenoids if they test okay. here is an example http://www.ebay.com/itm/140699900030...84.m1426.l2649 this listing is for a new ford injector however based on the sellers description I know it's a reman Last edited by sinner6.0L; 02-10-2012 at 03:53 PM. |
