code p2285

went to dealer today because my check engine light was on.this was the code p2285,est.to repair was $1978.36.my truck will die sometimes and while i'm driving after warm up it serges.then some times it will gain rpms on it's on.i was told it had to do with high oil pressure.does this sound about rite.i've had two inj.go,and an egr valve.

code 2285 is not the hpop , if it was mine i would replace the icp sensor and connector , clear the codes and see what happens , i bet that will fix it , its possible to have needed the egr valve , but it might have been ok just to clean it

is this something i can do? i am a m.s.t. small engine mech.i have worked on cars all my life.

lots of people have done this fix. if you are mechanically smart then it should be no problem. good luck and let us know!

i should think so, like rob said , its not that hard , what you have to figure out is which icp sensor you have , generally the only ones that give problems are the older models in which the icp is mounted in the rear of the engine in the hpop cover , they are aggravating to get to but it can be done from the bottom in about 30 minutes with little experience , what year model is your truck

being that it is an 04 , the sensor could be mounted on the rear of the engine or in the right side valve cover , on the right side valve cover there is a silver box , which is the glow plug control module , has a green and black connector going into it ,right beside that box if the icp sensor is mounted there ,you should see a almost polished sensor with three wires going into it , if you dont see that 3 wire connector and sensor there it is in the back of the engine in the hpop housing

i am taking it to the dealer friday,74.00 labor and 140.00 for the part.trying to locate it might be hard for me.i'll let you know if this fix the problem

WELL.I HAD THE ICP SENSOR INSTALLED AND IT STILL SHOWS,LOW VOLTAGE A THE ICP SENSOR.SAME CODE.WHEN THE DEALER WAS DONE I ASK THAT THEY CLEAR THE CODE.IT WAS OK UNTIL I SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED ,THE LIGHT CAME ON,SAME CODE P2285.THEY DID WHAT I ASKED THEM TO DO.I CALLED BACK AND MADE APPT.TO LEAVE IT MONDAY AND LET THEM DO WHAT THEY THINK IT IS. ONE THING I FORGOT TO MENTION IS I INSTALLED A BOX THAT HAS 5 POWER SETTINGS IT IS BLACK AND A TWO WIRE HOOK UP.GROUND AND ONE WIRE THAT HOOKS TO A BLUE WIRE WITH RED STRIPE UNDER THE HOOD ON DRIVER SIDE NEXT TO BATTERY.IT WAS IN THE BOX THAT HAS 3 BUNCHES OF WIRES,THIS WIRE WAS IN THE MIDDLE ONE.IT WOULD GIVE IT A GREAT BUST.
