Alternator Issues?!

I recently had to replace my alternator due to it giving out, and killing my batteries to boot, but have noticed my a/c is not cutting out now!! You see prior to replacing the alternator I would be driving and the a/c would stop cooling. since replacing the alternator it has not cut out. Is there a process in which the computer shuts off power draining accessories in the event of a low charging alternator to extend the charge on the batteries? Any input would be great!
