Ok so I was having extreme rough running and loss of power issues. I just bought the truck back in December so I figured it was an EGR valve and that the guy that owned it before me idled to long in the winter. Well I pulled out a lump of coal. A can of throttle body cleaner later I had a EGR valve. The valve didn't seem to seat 100% so I ordered a new one until I figure out which delete kit I want to use. I'm not throwing codes this time but my scanner is saying the I/M status for EGR has not run. I just wanted to know if this is normal or if I should look into something else as also being a problem.

If you're getting white smoke, then your EGR and oil cooler will need to be replaced. The oil cooler is probably clogged, causing your EGR cooler to overheat and leak coolant into the intake manifold, hence the white smoke (steam). Better yet, if you don't have to worry about emissions you can delete the egr cooler.
