Wondering steering

I recently purchased an '05 F-350 with a procomp lift kit already installed. Anyway going down the road the truck wonders all over like someone else is trying to steer for me. Well I had a friend go under the truck while I worked the wheel from side to side. It didn't take long and my friend told me to go under and look for myself. The steering box has a pin coming out of it that the drag link connects to, has play in it and makes a nice clunk. Well tomorrow I am planning on contacting one of the stealerships and see if they will be kind enough to cover this under warranty . I guess my question is does this sound like it would be the problem or should I look deeper into it??

If there is now slop anywhere else it probably is the problem, how many miles are on the truck?

the truck has about 47,000 miles

It is out of warranty the warranty is 3 years 36,000 for everything but the motor. At 47,000 you shouldnt have any other steering, suspension issues though. Does the lift have a warrenty if so you might want to take it to whoever installed it. Hope you get it going.

The truck is under extended warranty.

Ok ran into a major problem. I called every Ford dealer in the state and not one will warranty the truck, plus the steering box was quoted for $800. Anyone know where I can get a steering box for a little cheaper than that???

My '05 with a donahoe 4.5 kit has the same clunk/wandering steering. The ball joint at the lower end of the panhard bar is loose and the local dealership said it's due to my lift. Havent priced out a new ball joint or lablr yet, but turning the steering wheel at a stop will duplicate the clunk. Just look at the ball joint and feel the movement.

The ball joint was tight, infact all the steering looked fine except the steering box. I wish it was just the ball joint would be alot easier on my wallet.

Junkyard maybe, they might not have any trucks that new though. There was post earlier that may have had a cheaper solution, i will try to find it.
