Intermittant No Start No Crank
Appreciate any information anyone might have on this....
Friends stock '03 F350 that occassionally will not start. Lights come on but starter does not crank. Sometimes you come back a few minutes later and it will start, sometimes it won't. The first time I checked it out, I reseated the relays under the hood on the left side. Got in and it still wouldn't start. Put it into neutral and wa la...it started. Suspecting a park interlock switch, my friend took it to the dealer and they replaced the switch in the steering column. A week later the truck wouldn't start again. They tried reseating the relays again, but it didn't work this time. Back to the dealer who couldn't duplicate the problem and she took it home. Tonight it failed to start again. My friend called the dealer who came out to see the truck. He verified that the truck wouldn't start. She told him what I did and he reseated the relays and the truck started. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? I'm thinking of using some contact cleaner on the relays and putting a thin piece of foam inside the relay cover to keep a little more pressure on the relays in their plugs. Does anyone have an electrical schematic of the starting circuit? Appreciate any and all help. SanDogDewey |

Pretty sure its a 6.0. It's in the Ford 03-07 6.0L Powerstroke Forums forum.

Maybe you should replace the relays. Sometimes my air horn relays get water in them and the rust and then no air horn.

You know...I always thought it was a 6.0 but I'll have to check for sure tomorrow. They made both that year didn't they?

Problem is gone...really gone.
Well, the dealer did the right thing and took the truck back after 6 months of this problem. So the problem is theirs now.
Thanks for the assistance. |
