4x4 stops working and light stays on
Hi Guys,
We got some snow last night and on my way to work I put it in 4x4 high and a few minutes after I was going sideways! Rolled down the window and can see that my front tires are not spinning! 4x4 on the dash is still displayed but it appears that the 4x4 is disengaging? I can turn it off and back on then it seems to engaged then a few minutes later, disengages. Any Ideas? My truck is tuned with ID’s Street tune and I just had a recent flash.

My first thought was maybe a hub seal leak causing you to lose enough vacuum to disengage the hubs; but on second thought, if it had enough vacuum to pull the hubs in in the first place wouldnt it be capable of maintaining enough vacuum to keep them pulled in?
So short answer is a for ya!

i would at least manually engage the hubs and rule that out fist seeing as its the cheapest route.if it still does it im thinking maybe a short in the t-case motor wiring

This actually happened to me yesterday aswell while I was mudding....

maybe pulled a vacuum line while driving in mud or in the op case if the snow was deep enough to grab the line.check your lines

Could be the solenoid on the fender by vac. pump.I had a similar issue last year.I lost the 4x4 in the middle of a major snowstorm 4ft of snow to be exact and couldn't tackle any hills. No sign of any problems til then.Locked the hubs manually and you could use
4x4 and get away with the snow and hills again. |

Thanks for the responses! I check my lines and all seem well. I guess I have to pony up $100 for an hour labor at my local shop to check it out.
![]() Seems really wierd, it works for a few minutes then seems to disengage. I slowly do some hard turns and easy from a stand still and don't get that bumpity bump feel you get and I can not see the front tire spin.

Well...had my shop take a look. Turns out nothing is wrong
![]() All vacuum lines were checked relating to operation of the auto hubs. All lines/connections were good. Vacuum pump was tested and cut-off switch and system is working properly. Pump shuts off once the vacuum reaches 15 inches. Vacuum cansister is not leaking and pump does not intermittenly turn on. All fuses were checkend and good. Maybe it was a glitch this am, or running the street tune on bald tires, or just being paranoid? but everything checked out perfect.
