coolant leak

noticed a little puddle under my 05 Excursion yesterday. I was from the passenger side of the engine and when I got under her, it was coming from the top rear of the engine. Just a small amount.
I started it up and brought it up to operating temp. Heater works great, coolant level is reading on the "min" line at temp.
About to go on a couple of trips for the holiday and don't want to spend half of it on the side of the road with a broke truck.

any ideas?

What color is "typical" coolant? This is not green or orange like i am used to seeing in gas vehicals, but it smells like coolant.

If it's coming from the passenger side, it might be the EGR cooler hose, or the oil cooler gasket. Both are located on top of the motor by the passenger valve cover in the engine valley. Look for a small orange (original hose) or blue (updated hose) hose, this is the EGR cooler hose. This hose gets connected to the oil cooler. Looks around the oil cooler, your seal might be leaking.


The Ford Gold Coolant is Gold/Yellow in color.
