I thought i was having trannie problems, but when i got under the truck, i noticed some metal shavings on the inside of my passenger side rear wheel. looked at passenger's side brake housing area and found that the spring on the back side of the housing was twisted. checked the driver side, the spring was straighter (looked normal). upon closer inspection, i noticed i could pull the spring assembly back and forth about 3/4 of an inch. not normal. looked around the housing some more, found a couple of jagged, mangled pieces of metal caught up around the rotor. removed all the pieces i could find, but noticed that the housing seemed a little warped. decided to see how much play there was in that spring area, so i jiggled it a little bit, and the spring came out of the housing completely! can someone please explain this assembly, what it is that i need to fix, whether or not i can do it at home, and what it might cost me at a shop. this is my only truck and i cant drive it anywhere like this for fear that i will compound the problem.
