Need help, found a round bearing, check valve?

im in the process of rebuilding the 6.0 in my excursion, needed a new bottom end.

when taking it apart, we found a ball bearing in the bottom of the motor (in the oil pan) i know the valve train uses ball bearings but this one was bigger

looks like it might be a check valve.... but where does it go? and how the hell did it end up in the pan?
