I had this start happening on my f 250, 06 model 2 weeks ago. Very faint odor, at idle mostly, and no obvious leaks. Drives me nuts! no problems till now...116,000 miles so hope theres an answer somewhere. Thanks for pitchin' in on this question guys.

no problem.

check the side of your fuel filter housing on top of the engine. There is a key hole shaped seal that is leaking on ours. its where one of the lines goes in or out (not sure what direction it flows).

found a small leak on back of cap on filter housing. Tried to loosen it to check it out, with 1/2 inch drive ratchet...cracked entire top out! Ford said $65.00 and have to order...got out the JB weld and the brake cleaner. Took 3 tries but it's stopped for now...
Thanks Gentlemen.

Same issue on a 05 F250. Diesel smell in cab when A/C is on at idle. Ford service manager said they didn't smell anything. I was there with the manager telling him there's fuel vapors coming through the vents...He just looked at me and said "I don't smell it." How do you deal with that? Anybody I've ever pointed it out to can smell it. Sometimes passengers comment on it.

new cap fixed my problem. But as to the raw diesel smell...I can't imagine that anyone would not smell it. Was as bad standing by the front of truck as inside. Not enough to make ya sick but definitely there. Glad to know of other possible leaks..will look there if odor shows up again.
