Turbo replaced under warranty at 25k miles??

I took my 2006 F250 6.0 to the dealership yesterday for the engine light coming on when towing. They found the turbo was not putting out the max boost under load. Veins in turbo were sticking. They went ahead & put on a new turbo. I've seen posts on here where the turbo can be cleaned. I wonder why they installed a new turbo in stead of cleaning it? Believe me I'm not complaining, just curious. The truck is completely stock & has not been beat on. Any thoughts?

To keep it from seizing again, pound on it atleast once or twice a day to keep the turbo blown out.

I get on mine atleast once a day and haven't had any issues yet.

These trucks were not made to be babied.

Thats what I was thinking. I don't drive the truck very often. It might sit for 2 or 3 weeks without being driven. I only drive it when I need to haul one of the trailers.
The techs notes said that the turbo was rusted & pitted. I guess I need to fire it up & drive it hard at least once a week.

Does the turbo collect a lot of condensation just sitting in the driveway?

The replacement turbos have been updated to have less contact surface area of the unison ring which controls the vanes, this is supposed to reduce corrosion induced turbo failures. If covered i will always update the turbo, if not cleaning usually works. Also if the vanes have pitting the only way ford offers the vanes is with a complete turbo. Sounds like they did the best thing...
