TBC Fault @ 37k miles...wtf!

so I get this TCB fault while NOT towing anything @ 37k miles. warranty is up of course and I DO tow a few times a month. So I take it in and pay the $90 to check it out and the dealer says its the controller itself. Needs to be replaced and itll be $400!

Has anyone called Ford and gotten something fixed when you are just out of warranty?

I had something similar happen when my truck was new, sitting in the BK drive true I heard a chime and read a TBC Fault, this was at 1k. I ignored it and never saw the fault again 39k later the brake controller still works fine and tow all the time. I'd hook up trailer and check it before handing over $400. JMO

I have. stopped it doesnt work at all. the numbers light up but pressing the brake does nothing. while driving and pressing the brake it works but its like its set on 1.0 even if I have it at 10 so there is barely any stopping power. but if I use the slider it works just fine.
