truck wouldn't start!?!
I drove my truck home from church Sunday (about 3 miles in light traffic at no more than 60 mph). Parked it and went to start it again in about 30 minutes, and it cranked strong but wouldn't fire. Several hours later it cranked and fired on the first try, and nothing has happened since. Any ideas what would cause this? I might add that it was about 100 degrees outside (but it's been driven plenty in heat like that with no problems). Also, one of my kids was screwing around as we pulled up to the house, and I was paying too much attention to him and shut the truck off while it was still in drive. Is it possible that shutting the truck off without putting it in park did something? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have had this happen twice in the last month with the last time just a couple of days ago. It seems to happen if I wait a longer to start after the glow plug telltale goes out. I have had to crank the engine for a longer period of time to get it to start if I wait to start some time after the glow plug. I'm going to take it to the dealership next week so I'll let you know what they say.

I think maybe after the plugs heat they start cooling down so maybe if you want to long it won't start. Anyone out there know about this? My sister also had the same problem in her tempo and she spent tons trying to fix it only to find a year later a recall from Ford for the pcm to fix this problem |

Well I took my truck to the dealer and they kept it for a day to do a cold start, they checked all the sensors and could not find any problems nor were any codes set - imagine that! The truck continued to start fine after I got it back, but then I got back from a camping trip recently and it would not start after several attempts. I was going to get it towed to the dealer but then it started and I have not had an issue with it over teh last 10 days. Seems to only happen after it sits overnight. I'm thinking maybe the the engine is flooding somehow and then doesn't start, I'm going to hold down the acc pedal if it happens again and see what happens. The funny thing is is that it cranks really strong, it's almost like it's not getting any fuel or I'm using an unprogrammed key (anti-theft key). |

I also thought about the glow plugs, so I made it a point to start as soon as the glow plug telltale went out. Tried multiple key cycles to make sure he glow plugs were warm. Didn't help in my case.
