THINKING ABOUT DOING ALL THE FIXES PLEASE READ AND REPLY

I am new to diesels. I just got a 05 king ranch dually with 126,000 on it. It has an edge w/attitude tuner and a K&N filter. Other than that its bone stock. Recently it has been starting hard in the morning but after a minute or two it runs fine. Here is a list of mods / fixes I am planning to do in the near future please let me know if I'm missing any. I'm a good wrench I have restored a few chevelles and built many small block and big block chevys. So as I list these out just answer per the number.

Thanks for all the support this forum is great!!!

1. How do I pull Codes?

Fixes planned
1. egr delete
2. arp studs
3. new tube for the oil return on the turbo.
4. new exhaust. (please comment on this when my buddies dad put an exhaust on his new ford a couple years ago the dealer told him to take it off it would ruin his tranny whats up with that!!! Can an aftermarket exhaust hurt your truck in any way?)

thanks in advance for any input

Jonathan

You pull codes by hooking up a Reader to your OBD2 Port that is under your dash.

First ditch the Edge and get yourself a custom tuned SCT from either Eric at Innovative Diesel or Cale at BTS. And ditch the K/N. I would recommend a either an S&B or Airraid intake.

Second, hard start issues are usually due to bad injectors. I would place my money on a faulty injector.

Third, I would invest in both a coolant filtration system and an oil filtration system. That way you have some cheap insurance for your injectors.

Fourth, I would get a fuel system. 6.0's that run a chip for any length of time eventually wear out the fuel pump, it becomes weak and doesn't deliver enough fuel, the ICP (injector control pressure) will drop as a result.

Fifth, I would invest in an exhaust. Doesn't really matter what brand, because pipe is pipe. Exhaust will not mess with anything or put your truck in danger in any way shape or form.

Other than that, the plan you have looks good.

Also, if you plan on doing these upgrades yourself, it would be a wise investment to buy the shop manuals off of ebay. They only cost like $20 but they have every part/system detailed in there with pictures, torque specs, assembly/diss-assembly procedures, etc. Could come in handy, especially for a first time 6.0 wrencher.

Could be, but 90% of the "hard start" threads I have seen have ended in atleast 1 injector being replaced lol.

I would ditch the Edge/Att combo or just use them on the stock setting as gauges. I would get an SCT x3 programer with custom tunes. This will also read and clear codes. You can research SCT on here and you will see thats what is working best on the 6.0's.
A good stand alone reader is gonna run pretty close price wise to the SCT so why not have the best programer for the truck and the reader in one. IMO
